UPDATE #3

To all Seacliff Manor Residents and Families:

We are continually being advised by Public Health regarding best practice guidelines and mandates for LTC homes and Retirement Residences with the COVID-19 Pandemic. During this pandemic, we have been ahead of most other facilities in implementing precautions to protect all our residents and staff. With the onset of 2 confirmed cases at Erie Shores Hospital and total of 92 confirmed cases throughout Windsor/Essex County, we must continue to be diligent in protecting our residents.

After great consideration, we are going to be changing to a meal delivery service directly to residents’ suites. Although we had re-arranged our dining room to align with social distancing, we feel that to protect our residents to the best of our abilities, we need to eliminate communal dining.

Dining is a time in where are our residents come together to strengthen ties and build relationships. Seacliff Manor strives to have, and excels in having, a dining experience that surrounds all of us with good food, conversation and fellowship. We understand the significance of socially isolating during meals and are greatly saddened by having to make this decision. More important to us, however, is our residents' health- and for this reason, this is a necessary decision. This will become effective on Monday April 6, 2020.

We are going to be working on some extra activities, that align with social distancing, to help support our residents during this time. Monitoring will continue with twice daily temperatures taken. Residents are asked to use their emergency assistance pendants and to contact reception with any questions.

Deliveries can still be made in the same manner. Deliveries can be dropped off in the foyer with the resident's name on it and we will ensure it is delivered to their room.

We have to ensure a positive outlook with a team effort and please trust that we will ensure everyone's safety in any way possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Kari Sleiman, General Manager
Seacliff Manor Retirement Residence

Effective immediately, Seacliff Manor will take all reasonable steps to follow the required precautions and procedures outlined in the Chief Medical Officer’s directives for Long-Term Care Homes in Ontario dated March 23, 2020 and approved by Ontario Retirement Communities Association and Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority:

  1. Residents at Seacliff Manor are strongly encouraged for their safety to no longer leave for short-stay absences to visit family and friends. Residents may go outside of the home but should remain on the home’s property and maintain a distance of a minimum of two meters from other people at all times.
  2. Only essential visitors will be allowed at Seacliff Manor. Essential visitors are defined as those who have a resident who is very ill or requires end-of-life care. These visitors must continue to be actively screened into these settings and are to be denied entry if they fail the screening.

UPDATE #1

To all Seacliff Manor Residents and Families:

Seacliff Manor is committed to doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of our residents, their families and friends, and our employees, volunteers, suppliers and service providers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With recent events related to COVID-19, Seacliff Manor is taking additional actions to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) into our retirement residence. First and foremost, we must continue to remain calm and remember that prevention remains our best strategy.

Visitation is limited to “Essential Visitors” at Long Term Care Homes and Retirement Residences across Canada as indicated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

In order to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, we will only allow essential visitors until further notice. We will reevaluate this measure in the coming weeks and ensure consistency with guidance on enhanced public health measures.   We identify essential visitors as those who have a resident who is dying or very ill in a live-in treatment setting. These visitors must continue to be actively screened. Those who fail the screening will not be permitted to enter.

No other visitors will be permitted to enter our retirement residence. Instead, we ask you to keep in touch with loved ones by phone or other technologies, as available. Active Screening will take place at a single entrance point for essential visitors and staff.   We regret the inconvenience this may cause for you, your family members and friends; however, we must do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our residents and the people who provide care to them. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Kari Sleiman
